Many of you would like to help sponsor a Haitian student through Starthrower Foundation but cannot afford to take on the full cost of the sponsorship. Not many people can afford $220 a month to sponsor a nursing student, or even $55 a month for a high school student. However, many could spare $10 or $20 a month, but don’t donate, thinking their donation wouldn’t really make a difference. So this is where “Starthrowers in Action” comes in. The concept is simple. We organize donors into groups and their donations goes to sponsor a specific student.
How it works:
- Contact us to let us know which student below you would like to help and how much you are able to donate monthly towards your student’s sponsorship.
- We will then assign you to that student and direct you to the Starthrower donation page at CanadaHelps.org where you’ll set up your online, secure donation. CanadaHelps accepts credit cards, Paypal and some bank cards (Interac). They will also provide you with charitable tax receipts.
- From then on, you will receive updates about your student from Sharon in Haiti.
Here are students who need URGENT sponsors. Please note that your monthly donations will go immediately towards their educations, even if the total sponsorship cost is not yet met. Starthrower Foundation will cover the difference until we reach our goal.

Clenie is 15 years old and is in her third year of high school.
Her dad left the country 2 years ago to look for work and hasn’t been heard from since – not uncommon. Her Mom has no work and no education. Clenie has 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Cost of sponsorship: $55 a month.

Nicoly G.
Nicoly is 29 years old and lives in Sen Rafayel.
He has 4 brothers and 4 sisters. His mother is not well. Father is dead.
Nicoly was admitted to Starthrower in 2004 in grade 9. He continued with us and graduated from Philo in 2009. He has been sitting waiting to study Agriculture.
Nicoly has been through the application process, which took about a year and passed the entrance exams. He has one sponsor so far. He was to begin in October but became ill with cholera. Baring another unforseen event, he will start in September at the University in Limbe. It is a five year program ending with a diploma and a state sanctioned certificate.
Cost of sponsorship: $250 a month.
Nicoly has one sponsor so far helping him with a monthly donation of $25.
