After students graduate from primary school (Grades 1-6), they become eligible to attend 'ane fondamental' designated as 'af' (Grades 7-9) which are preparatory years for senior high school. At the end of 9af, the student writes State National exams. Successful completion allows them to enter senior high designated as 'S' (secondaire 1, 2, 3 and 4). At the end of S4, the student again writes State National exams to receive their high school certificate. That carries a lot of weight ... especially in the smaller villages.
